Laura Bell Bundy Interview with TOPS
July 8th, 2010
Local girl and up-and -coming artist, Laura Bell Bundy, recently sat down with Ryan Buckler of Tops/Lexscene Magazine at the 98.1 WBUL Red, White, and Boom Festival to answer a couple questions.
TOPS: So you were the Grandmaster for the Lexington Parade this morning. How was that?
LBB: It was fun. I didn't know what to expect or how long it would be, but it was really fun! There were some really cool floats and classic cars.
TOPS: You have been playing all over the country over the past couple weeks. How does it feel to be back in Lexington, playing for your hometown crowd?
LBB: Nothing is better than coming back home and being able to play. This is the first time that I have really sung my own music off this record (Achin' and Shakin'). It’s nice to be able to see my family and friends out in the crowd, then go home and sleep in the room that I grew up in. It's just great to know that I have such great fans here in Lexington that listen to my music.
TOPS: What has your transition from Broadway star to country star been like?
LBB: Actually, I was doing both simultaneously while I was living in New York. Even though it was nothing really major, I was putting on some gigs in clubs around New York while I was performing on Broadway. I have always loved country music and performing, so it came pretty easily.
TOPS: So Laura, what music have you been listening to on your Ipod lately?
LBB: I am all about the classics like Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton. I have also been listening to a lot of the current artists like Easton Corbin, Jake Owen, Miranda Lambert, and Blake Shelton.
TOPS: Speaking of Blake and Miranda, from my understanding you guys are pretty close friends.
LBB: Yea, we are all kinda just crazy, outgoing people. On a personal level, we are definitely people who are very outspoken and as a result we have a lot of fun when we get together.
TOPS: What's one crazy story that you have experienced while you have been out on tour?
LBB: In Houston, there are two airports and they are about 45 minutes from each other and we were dropped off at the wrong Houston airport. When we realized it, we had to rush to the other one. We were running through the airport screaming and trying to make it there in time. Luckily it was delayed and we made our flight. It’s kind of a hilarious thing when you and 5 or six people are running and screaming through an airport with instruments.
TOPS: Do you have anything to say to your fans in Lexington?
LBB: I am just glad that I have them!!! It’s great to know that I can always come back here to Lexington and have so many people that appreciate me and my music. I love them all!
